Western Swing Chronicles, Vol. 5: Bob Dunn: Master of the Steel Guitar. One of the most important figures in western swing history, Bob Dunn was the first country musician to use an amplified instrument on a phonograph record. He performed with Milton Brown's Musical Brownies from 1934 until 1936 but then left to begin a nomadic career with a variety of Southwest string bands. This 2-CD set will feature rare recordings featuring Dunn and also include, for the first time, unpublished family photographs.
Now accepting orders for "The Jazz Man Records Anthology," a companion CD that goes with Cary Ginell's newly published book, Hot Jazz for Sale: Hollywood's Jazz Man Record Shop. The book can be purchased at Lulu.com. The 25-track CD includes selections recorded for Jazz Man Records between 1941 and 1954. Artists include Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band, Bunk Johnson's Original Superior Band, George Lewis' Ragtime Band, Pete Daily & his Chicagoans, and many more. A bonus track: a previously unreleased recording of "Fixin' to Die" by Bukka White in 1963 at the Jazz Man Record Shop. To order, go to our New Releases page.
